WHY Disaster Response

India is a country highly susceptible to natural disasters due to its geographical location. More than half of its land is prone to earthquakes, and over 12% is susceptible to floods. The long coastline of nearly 7,500 kilometres is also at risk of cyclones and tsunamis. Additionally, about 68% of the cultivable area faces the threat of droughts. This highlights the critical importance of disaster preparedness. India’s vulnerability to disasters is further heightened by factors like rapid urbanization, development in high-risk zones, environmental degradation, climate change, and outbreaks of diseases. These combined challenges pose a serious threat to the country’s sustainable development, as well as the lives and livelihoods of countless individuals. It’s a crucial step towards creating a fair and harmonious world for everyone.
